On Friday May 1st, 2009 the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement hosted the 11th annual awards ceremony in Mississauga, Ontario.  The winners of the major awards were:

Award of Valour – Detective Constable Sue Storey – Ontario Provincial Police Service – Central Region
Leadership – Acting Superintendent Sandy Thomas, Ontario Provincial Police- Uniform Recruitment
Excellence in Performance – Detective Constable Bev Meehan – Halton Regional Police Service

Civilian Award of Achievement - Judy Broomfield, Toronto Police Service
Community Service – Constable Athena LaCarte – Ontario Provincial Police – Aboriginal Policing Unit

This year the 106 award nominees came from Durham Regional Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service, Hamilton Police Service, Ministry of the Attorney General, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Niagara Regional Police Service, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police, Ottawa Police Service, Peel Regional Police Service, R.C.M.P., Toronto Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service and York Regional Police.
 
OWLE also recognizes civilian members and officers who have dedicated 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service. This year OWLE recognized 109 recipients including members from: Greater Sudbury Police,  Halton Regional Police, Hamilton Police, London Police, Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Niagara Regional Police,  Ontario Provincial Police, Ottawa Police, Peel Regional Police, Timmins Police, Toronto Police, York Regional Police, Waterloo Regional Police and Windsor Police.
