Louise Logue - Award for Community Service

In her role as Youth Intervention Co-ordinator for the Ottawa Police Service our nominee continuously impresses and inspires those who work with her. Because of her commitment to her job and clients, she has earned a very positive reputation in the local youth justice community.

It was with the addition of this woman in 1994 to the Ottawa Police Service that the impact to youth intervention services was felt. Her philosophy of Early Identification, Early Intervention advocates identifying youths who are at thegreatest risk to provide timely interventions to reduce or eliminate criminal or anti-social behaviour.

Our nominee was instrumental in the development and delivery of the Ottawa Police Service's parent Information Sessions where parents are provided with information to help them make informed decisions when dealing with substance abuse issues and parent's rights and responsibilities.

As well she initiated the case conferencing concept where many agencies serving the same client are brought together to provide more co-ordinated and effective intervention.

And she is involved with the Stable Youth program bringing offenders and police officers together to participate in sporting or social events to gain a better understanding of each other.

To this single mom her biggest fans are her two sons, John and Jim. John wrote "the time she spent teaching us how to be men is far greater than the time most fathers spend with their children. Any mathematician could not count the time she spent showing us how to be respectful to others, how to help others in need and how to be good to people. She never asked for anything in return except that we make her proud."

And now she has made them proud.

The Laura Ellis Award for Community Service is presented to Louise Logue of the Ottawa Police Service.
