Toronto Police service - Detective Sergeant Cory Bockus began her career 23 years ago. Early in her career she joined the Forensic Identification Services, working on a number of detailed and difficult cases. Her professionalism and dedication resulted in some significant successes and commendations from officers of the court. One Crown Attorney wrote, "Her attention to detail, her enthusiasm for her job and her apparent concern for professionalism impressed me immensely. Cross examination by defense counsel left her evidence unshaken."

In a difficult case where a man killed a woman by striking her in the neck with a machete, Cory identified the accused's fingerprint on the inside of a piece of scotch tape that was attached to a gift box found beside the victim's body. At the trial Cory testified in a "professional, intelligent and dignified manner." The writer states that he has, "never been more impressed with a forensic identification officer's testimony."

Following her promotion to Detective, Cory became a Homicide investigator where she continues as the longest serving female member of the squad. She is now a Detective Sergeant. She has been the lead investigator in 42 homicides, likely more than any other woman in the country. She acquits herself with dignity and professionalism. Her nominator writes, "It takes a special person to deal with the families of victims. It is imperative that the investigator not allow human emotions to distract them from conducting their investigations in a fair, ethical and honest manner."
