D/Superintendent Kate Lines O.P.P. Director - Intelligence Bureau wants to be remembered at her retirement as an officer who was fair and honest in her dealings with people. Quite a modest statement for an officer decorated with the Officer Order of Merit Medal, Queens Commission, International Association of Women Police Excellence in Performance, Ontario Women in Law Enforcement Excellence in Performance & Team Achievement Award and most recently the Blue Line Magazine's Leadership Award recipient in 2004.

Initially her interest in policing came through her high school law class in Peterborough, Ontario where a local O.P.P. officer presented to Kate's class. She liked the delivery of his message, which sparked her interest in the area of Criminal Justice. Kate did her homework and consulted with other officers from Toronto P.S. and the O.P.P. before joining the O.P.P. in 1977. Her 27-year policing history takes us into the investigative areas of: uniform patrol, undercover drugs, fraud and major crimes.
Then in 1990 she completed the FBI's Criminal Profiling Fellowship Program in Quantico Virginia and became only the 2nd Canadian to graduate from that program at that time. Kate credits her friend and colleague retired D/Cst. Sue Lloyd with giving her the support and encouragement and talking her into putting her name forward for this FBI course.

This area of expertise is responsible for Kate's most memorable moments and cases in her policing career. After grueling testimony in a double homicide case in Toronto, the mother of the two victims (sisters) came up to Kate and hugged her in the hallway and said "thank you" to her. "It was at this moment that I knew why I do what I do" , said Lines. The Kristin French & Leslie Mahaffy homicide cases were one of her first since completing her Criminal Profiling Course and one of her most memorable. Kate was heavily involved in the investigations and interrogations resulting from this case, which had been profiled by the F.B.I.

D/Superintendent Lines is currently the first female Director of Intelligence Bureau. She recommends never shying away from taking risks or chances or from things that have never been done before and recommends that you surround yourself with friends and colleagues who are positive thinkers and will support you no matter what your decisions are. O.W.L.E. is proud to present D/Superintendent Kate Lines to you as the O.W.L.E. Feature Officer.
