In May 2003 Ontario Provincial Police - Constable Lisa Lambert quickly reacted to a situation she witnessed when a fellow officer lost control of his police vehicle, striking a large tree.
His vehicle received extensive damage and the impact caused the engine compartment to ignite near the windshield. Due to his injuries and the extent of the damage the officer was unable to get out of his burning cruiser.
Flames surrounded the engine compartment when Lisa assisted the injured officer in exiting his vehicle through a small opening in the driver's side window. A citizen also stopped and between the two they were able to guide the officer out and away from the burning car where the flames had entered the driver's compartment.
Lisa's courage under pressure earned her the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement Award of Valour.
